"In Other Countries, Head Of Security, Military, Intelligence, Would Have Been Fired," Former Minister

Former Minister of Welfare Services for War Veterans, War Collaborators and Former Political Detainees, Tshinga Dube has criticised the government over its lack of commitment to solve the White City bombing saga.

The former liberation fighter said that had the incident happened in other jurisdictions, heads would have rolled over the matter.

Referring to the explosion that took place on 23 June 2018 at a ZANU PF rally held at White City Stadium, Bulawayo, where President Emmerson Mnangagwa was addressing party supporters in preparation for the July harmonised elections, Dube said:

What happened at White City was very serious. In other countries, security forces would definitely not have been spared. In other countries, the head of security … military, intelligence and so forth would have been fired. But this did not happen because it is not in our culture in this country.

A number of presidential guard personnel lost their lives in the event whilst VP Kembo Mohadi, Mary Chiwenga and Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Mabel Chonomona and other senior government officials sustained injuries.

Mnangagwa was whisked away by his security personnel and left the scene hurriedly, and yet, a year later, authorities have no clue as to who was responsible for the explosion.
