Presidential Spokesperson Says ED Does Not Have To Welcome Chiwenga

President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s spokesperson, George Charamba, said that only people who are ignorant of State protocol think that the Head of State was supposed to welcome Vice President Constantino Chiwenga on his return from China.

Chiwenga’s plane landed at the Robert Gabriel Mugabe International airport around 02:30 on Saturday morning and was welcomed by Chinese embassy officials.

Charamba, using his Twitter handle @Jamwanda2, asserted that the President does not receive his deputy.

However, Charamba did not explain why a guest, that is, the Chinese Deputy ambassador, welcomed Chiwenga back home whilst there were no senior Zimbabwean government officials present.

Here is what Charamba said:

TWI-PROTOCOL? Interesting that well-known oppositional twi-voices seek to teach is how to welcome and love our leaders! Itsitsi dzei? For the record, ED who is Head of State and President of Zimbabwe does not – repeat – DOES NOT receive his Deputy. In the same vein, the Chinese.

…Ambassador who personifies the Chinese State here in Zimbabwe WILL NOT receive a Vice President of the State to which he is accredited. The protocol does not allow both cases. For the record, President Mnangagwa and his Deputy enjoyed daily communication while the VP was away.

The President will meet and welcome his Deputy in the appropriate way and setting. In the meantime, all well-meaning Zimbabweans rejoice that Vice President Chiwenga is back and looks fit.
