Power Wrangle In Mugodhi Apostolic Church In New Turn

Power dynamics in the Mugodhi Apostolic Church, one of the largest Apostolic sects in Zimbabwe, have taken a dramatic turn after Tonnie Sigauke who was given the green light to lead the church was locked out of the church premises in Wedza.

The development came to light when the church fronted by Sigauke made a fresh application to be given permission to execute the court judgment. Citing the most recent former church leader, Tandewu Mugodhi who succumbed to cancer in October and his sons among them Innocent and Enock as respondents, Sigauke said:

The respondents are currently denying the applicant’s congregants access to the church’s shrine in Wedza and congregants have had to conduct services outside.

There are high chances that the applicant will split as the news is all over social media and the country’s most-read newspapers.

Reports suggest that on his death bed, Tandewu made it known that he wanted his son Washington to take over the reins of the church, but the announcement did not go well with Sigauke who was Tandewu’s deputy.

Sigauke whom some church members accuse of having altered the church constitution then approached the High Court which declared that Washington’s appointment was unlawful.
