Former NSSA Boss Sues Herald And NSSA Board Chair For Defamation

Former National Social Security Authority (NSSA) board chairman, Robin Vela has sued the Herald and the incumbent NSSA board chair Cuthbert Chidoori for damaging his reputation by spreading reports which suggest that he was involved in corruption which robbed the authority huge amounts of money.

Chambati, Mataka and Makonese Attorneys, who are representing the NSSA former boss said in their court papers:

The plaintiff’s reputation and standing, being a chartered accountant, investment banker and businessman of global acclaim has been significantly impaired in the eyes of the public. His reputation in commercial circles as an upstanding man of probity both locally and abroad has been decimated.

This comes after reports suggesting that, under Vela’s watch, NSSA made questionable investments which would cost the authority US$150 million in cash.

Vela is, however, denying the reports saying that he executed due diligence before making investments.
