ED Promises To 'Deal' With Striking Doctors

President Emmerson Mnangagwa has promised Zimbabwe’s incapacitated doctors that he will “deal” with them very soon.

Speaking to members of the Zimbabwe Liberation War Collaborators (ZILIWACO) in Harare on Saturday, Mnangagwa disclosed that security agents have told him that some doctors are being paid to remain on strike. He said:

We were told by our security agents that there are some people, who are being paid to strike, but the rest was just following.

Two days ago we met some of the doctors they told us that they were influenced by others to go on strike and they told me that they have discovered that they were being used by their colleagues who were getting the money to go on strike but we will deal with them soon.

Unions representing public sector doctors, that is, the Zimbabwe Hospital Doctors Association (ZHDA) and the Senior Hospital Doctors Association (SHDA) have withdrawn their labour due to incapacitation.

A few months ago, ZHDA president Dr Peter Magombeyi was abducted from his Budiriro home in the dead of the night by unknown assailants and held captive for several days.
