Harare City Council has increased the penalty for clamped vehicles to $500.00 in a bid to restore order on the streets which have become a traffic jungle.
The city experiences enormous traffic congestion during business hours and the problem becomes worse during the rainy season.
The council believes that raising penalties for violating by-laws, including parking, will help in eliminating lawlessness.
The cost of parking has not been changed, with motorists having to part with $3.00 for 30 minutes parking while one has to pay $5.00 for an hour.
