"Much-Hyped Zanu PF V MDC Talks Remain Just A Storm In A Teacup," News Day Columnist

News Day guest columnist, Learnmore Zuze has observed that there is no commitment to occasion a dialogue between the ruling ZANU PF and the opposition MDC led by Nelson Chamisa.

Zuze’s remarks come when both MDC and ZANU PF have for a sustained period of time now indicated the will to engage and have dialogue but have been clashing on a number of issues which are unfortunately essential for the dialogue to happen.

ZANU PF is rejecting all the demands by the MDC which include having dialogue outside the Political Actors Dialogue (POLAD) forum which was initiated by president Emmerson Mnangagwa and to have Mnangagwa’s legitimacy on the dialogue agenda since it is the reason there is an impasse.

Hopes for dialogue between the two parties were raised when former South Africa president, Thabo Mbeki visited the country but it seems the nation has to wait again. It is within this context that Zuze said:

At this juncture, Zimbabwe can no longer continue to have “talks about talks” when the country has been engulfed by flames.

Zuze echoes sentiments of some political analysts who believe that the resolution of the standoff between ZANU PF and MDC would bring stability to the country.
