Civil Servants Receive $750 Cushioning Allowance For January

Treasury this week started paying civil servants cushioning allowances after it set aside $300 Million for the sore purpose of paying cushioning allowances, The Chronicle reports.

The civil servants started receiving $750 each as a cushioning allowance for January according to the publication:

Government last week offered civil servants a 76 percent pay increase that will result in the least paid worker taking home $2 033, up from $1 023 per month and paid $750 this week as a cushioning allowance for January.

The civil servants last week rejected the 97% salary increment offered by the government saying they want an equivalent of US $475. Treasury, however, could only promise them more cushioning allowances.
