Mambo Dynasty Challenges Renaming Of Bulawayo's Streets After Ndebele Kings

The Lozwi Kingdom has slammed Bulawayo City Council over its recent move to rename some of the city’s major streets and buildings after Ndebele Kings.

Mike Moyo (50), who was recently installed as king of the newly revived Mambo Dynasty, argued that the Lozwi Kingdom existed before the arrival of the Ndebele, hence its kings have to be recognised as well. He said:

We are calling on the national government to intervene and reverse this diabolical process or we are going to pull down the new King Lobengula Street plaques in demonstration of our anger.

We are giving the authorities 21 days to reverse this process, a deadline which if not met, we are going to hold a protest march to the City Hall.

Moyo said he has attempted to contact the City Fathers but they have refused to consider his concerns.

The City of Bulawayo recently renamed some of its roads to replace some of the roads’ pre-colonial names.
