The Zimbabwe United Passenger Company (ZUPCO) will keep its buses on the road despite a government ban on any form of gatherings of more than 100 people for the next 60 days from March 20.
ZUPCO chief executive officer Evaristo Madangwa told NewZimbabwe.com that the public transporter will take measures to tackle the spread of coronavirus. He said:
We will continue with our services of bringing transport to the people because people really need transport.
However, we will take some measures and work hand in hand with the government in tackling the spread of Coronavirus.
We will be educating our passengers on the dos and don’ts in order to prevent ourselves from being affected by the virus.
Madangwa, however, added that ZUPCO buses will limit the number of passengers – 75 seated and 21 standing.
Due to the high number of people shunning privately-owned buses, ZUPCO has been inundated by passengers and some buses end up carrying more than 100 people.
