Govt To Crack Down On Those Who Cause 'Alarm & Despondency' During Lockdown

President Emmerson Mnangagwa has announced that legal instruments are being put in place to deal with people who abuse social and other forms of media to cause unnecessary alarm and despondency during the lockdown.

Mnangagwa made the announcement on Friday evening while addressing the nation on the impending 21-day lockdown that will commence on March 30. He said:

Legal instruments are being put in place to deal with and punish those who cause unnecessary alarm and despondency through social and other media, during this emergency. We need to act responsibly.

Meanwhile, Health and Child Care Minister Obadiah Moyo said that the government is decentralising laboratory testing for coronavirus specimens with the National University of Science and Technology (NUST) in Bulawayo joining the National Reference Laboratory in Harare for the confirming tests, while rapid test kits will be distributed across the country.
