Zimpapers’ Masvingo correspondent, Walter Bekithemba Mswazi was on Wednesday laid to rest at a Mangwandi Cemetery on the outskirts of Masvingo City.
The veteran 45-year-old journalist succumbed to kidney complications on Tuesday at Makurira Memorial Clinic.
His funeral was attended by scores of people from all walks of life who wanted to bid him farewell and among them was Chiefs Council President Fortune Charumbira who in his graveside eulogy described Mswazie as a rare breed of a journalist.
Chief Charumbira mourned Mswazie saying that the media would never be the same without Mswazie and urged journalists to take a leaf from him by shunning bribery and reporting objectively.
Mswazie’s family thanked members of the Masvingo media for supporting him and also paid tribute to Zimpapers for extending support to enable Mswazie to a perfect send-off.
Herald Masvingo Bureau Chief George Maponga, who represented Zimpapers, described Mswazie’s departure as a big loss to the company adding that he would be sorely missed because of his high work ethic.
Mswazie is survived by his wife Shingi, three children Walter (Jnr)23, Mavis (16) and Bekitemba (14).
