Vice President Constantino Chiwenga this Friday toured Marondera to assess isolation and treatment facilities in Mashonaland East province as well as the level of compliance for the 21-day lockdown.
VP Chiwenga is pictured fully clothed in Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), and in one of the pictures, a nurse with only a face mask sanitizes his hands.
The pictures have drawn criticism from political scientist Jonathan Moyo and journalist Hopewell Chin’ono.
Jonathan Moyo: It’s breathtaking that the #ZanuPF apa Wamba seems unaware of the #COVID19 divide that’s now between them who wear facemasks & the povo who don’t. If facemasks are necessary for the shefs, why are they not necessary for the povo? The #coronavirus is an equal opportunity disease!
Hopewell Chin’ono: Vice President Chiwenga is wearing the best ever Personal Protective Equipment-PPE that I have ever seen anyone wearing in the whole world.
The irony of him getting sanitizer liquid from a nurse with nothing, but just a mask is staggering.
That is our leadership for you, detached from the reality of their doctors and nurses who are begging for the basics!
