Do You Hear Laurel or Yanny? People Listening To This Audio Don't Hear The Same Thing

When you play the Audio above, do you hear Yanny or Laurel?  Whatever you heard, you will most likely not agree with other people near you.

Some hear Yanny and some hear Laurel.

This audio, which became popular first in 2018 is making the rounds again on social media and the wider internet with listeners arguing about what is said.

The answer is that both are correct.

There’s been speculation that the differences might be related to hearing loss or the age of the listener. It is known that some sounds are audible only to people under 25.

The audio recording originated on the resource website Vocabulary.com, under the entry for “laurel.” Apparently, a student who was researching the word (which means “wreath worn on the head, usually as a symbol of victory.”) – heard Yanny when she pressed play on the word.

Eventually, she checked with her classmates and she got realising many were hearing “Yanny”, while others were hearing “Laurel”. She then posted the audio to her Instagram, igniting what has become one of the internet’s most famous audios.

You can read more about that here.
