Conventional Buses Back On Intra City Routes

The government has given the green light for conventional bus operators with valid operating permits to ferry people from various locations to their respective working places under the relaxed lockdown restrictions.

Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services Ndavaningi Nick Mangwana said anyone in the transport business with a valid permit was eligible to transport people to and from their working places.

Mangwana added that the buses are, however, not allowed to ferry people between cities.

Under Level 2 of the national lockdown, only buses are permitted to transport people, with commuter omnibuses (kombis) and smaller taxis not permitted to operate. The buses should be disinfected twice a day to curb the spread of coronavirus.

The latest development comes when the state-owned bus operator, the Zimbabwe United Passenger Company (ZUPCO), has been overwhelmed by the number of commuters reporting for duty at their working places.
