"I Never Contested In The MDC Alliance Congress Led By Nelson Chamisa," - Mwonzora

Reinstated Secretary-General of the opposition Movement for Democratic Change (MDC-T), Douglas Mwonzora has denied ever participating in a congress of the MDC Alliance.

Mwonzora actually participated in the congress that was held in Gweru in May last year and lost the Secretary-General post to Chalton Hwende.

He made the remarks in his court papers in which he was opposing the challenge to the expulsion of four MDC Alliance legislators from Parliament. Mwonzora argued:

By virtue of the judgment of Justice (Edith) Mushore as well as the judgment by the Supreme Court, the actions by Nelson Chamisa in his capacity as president of the MDC-T were nullified. I never contested in the MDC Alliance congress led by Nelson Chamisa. Fortunately, the judgment was upheld by the Supreme Court.

In simple terms, Mwonzora is saying if the said congress was declared null and void, it is best to say it never transpired.

The Supreme Court nullified the MDC Alliance Congress and that of the MDC-T and ordered the party (MDC-T which is said to be comprised of the two factions – MDC-Alliance and MDC-T) to hold an extraordinary congress to find a successor to party founding leader, Morgan Tsvangirai.
