Police Confirm Shooting A Bulawayo Man On Saturday

Zimbabwe Republic Police has confirmed the shooting of Paul Munakopa, a 34-year-old Bulawayo on Saturday night by members of the police force.

He was shot around 10 pm along Caithness Road in Hillside and he succumbed to gunshot wounds at United Bulawayo Hospitals (UBH) in the early hours of Sunday morning.

National police spokesman Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi said that the matter was still under investigation adding that occupants of the Honda Fit were found totally naked. He said:

A police patrol team made up of regular officers and community officers in the Hillside area came across a black Honda Fit parked on a road. The vehicle sped off and the officers gave chase.

During the chase, the Honda Fit turned and hit the officers’ car and a shoot-out ensued. Unfortunately a man was injured and later passed on.

Meanwhile, Munakopa’s spouse, Tracey Mufudzi told CITE during an interview that her fiance said that the police were in a Toyota Fortuner so they did not realise that it was being driven by the police.

She added that the police never shot warning shots but just fired at them resulting in Paul sustaining injuries. The deceased’s family now wants investigations to reveal what really transpired.
