"It Will Be Unwise To Allow Border Jumpers Staying With You," Health Officials
Health experts have warned that members of the public against harbouring border jumpers who would not have been tested for coronavirus.
The warning comes when there has been a spike in the number of Zimbabwe’s known coronavirus cases with the majority of the cases being returning citizens who have been abroad.
Speaking during an interface with Chiefs from Mashonaland central in Bindura, Provincial Health Promotion Officer, Takura Muzorodzi, said:
The recent rise in new cases is not because of internal transmission, maybe one of the 76, which means returning citizens are the major contributors. In villages, chiefs and headman, it will be unwise for you to leave border jumpers staying with you without being tested.
Also speaking at the same gathering, the Minister of State for Provincial Affairs, Monica Mavhunga said there were misconceptions with regards to how coronavirus patients were being treated, a situation that might be scaring others off quarantine centres.
She added that traditional leaders should embark of awareness campaigns to educate people on proper conduct upon returning from abroad so that they do not infect others.
