China has donated an assortment of equipment to Zimbabwe to help the Southern African country deal with the novel coronavirus.
In a statement, National COVID-19 Command Centre chairperson Nathan Nkomo revealed that the donations from China will be handed over to President Emmerson Mnangagwa on Thursday (tomorrow) by the Chinese Ambassador to Zimbabwe Guo Shaochun. The statement read:
The President of the Republic of Zimbabwe, His Excellency Cde Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa will be receiving donations from the People’s Republic of China represented by His Excellency Ambassador Guo Shaochun tomorrow – 11 June 2020.
We continue to cherish the cordial relationship between the Government of Zimbabwe and the People’s Republic of China, and express gratitude for their continued support towards fighting the spread of COVID 19.
We also extend our sincere appreciation of the efforts by rest of the international community, our corporates, faith-based organisations and individuals who have assisted through donations targeted at COVID-19 relief.
We, therefore, call upon well-wishers to keep extending a helping hand with more donations towards COVID-19 relief.
Our serious gap has always been in the areas of PPEs, laboratory consumables, food for children in quarantine centres, sanitary wear amongst other critical needs.
As the National Covid-19 Command Centre, we urge the public to adhere to protective measures provided by the Ministry of Health and Child Care and always stay safe.
