The United States Embassy in Zimbabwe has emphasised the importance of transparency in enhancing democracy. The embassy was commenting on on reports of rampant corruption in the country.
Posting on Twitter this Sunday, the Embassy said:
Transparency is critical -even in an emergency- for democracy to function, allowing citizens to hold governments to account and ensure resources are used wisely. Why is Zimbabwe’s public-facing website for procurement awards still blank? #ADollarStolen
The remarks come amid reports that a two-weeks old company, Drax Consult sagl, also known as Drax International fronted by Delish Nguwaya was contracted to procure medical equipment for the Ministry of Health and Child Care.
The company that is also linked to the first family supplied the equipment to the government at inflated prices thereby triggering public outrage and calls for the prosecution of everyone involved.
