The government has urged members of the pubic to adhere to recommendations by health experts to stop the spread of the coronavirus.
The warning against complacency comes when the number of coronavirus cases in the country have risen to 625 after eight more people tested positive on Friday.
The warning was issued by the acting Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Health and Child care, Dr Gibson Mhlanga who said:
We want to emphasise to the people of Zimbabwe that this virus is real and people should strictly adhere to the set preventative measures, let’s wear our masks let’s practice social distancing and safe hygiene use of hand sanitisers, avoid handshakes and we also have people who are jumping the borders let’s report them.
On Friday, ZBC journalist, Rueben Barwe toured Mbare, a suburb in Harare and observed that people were not maintaining social distancing while some were putting masks around their heads, not covering mouths and noses as per the World Health Organisation (WHO) recommendation.
Since the relaxation of lockdown regulations a few weeks ago, some members of the public have become complacent with reports suggesting that even the banned commuter omnibuses are now ferrying people into town and back.
