Notorious Armed Robbers Expected In Court

Notorious armed robber Musa Taj Abdul (46) and his six accomplices are expected to appear at the Harare Magistrates Court this Friday facing nine counts of robbery.

The gang members and their police officer host were arrested in a major raid in Beitbridge on Monday and police have since launched a manhunt for four other suspects who fled the raid.

Taj Abdul, the fired former Masvingo Central police officer Rudolf Kanhanga alias Tapiwa Munatsi (29), Liberty Mupamhanga (29), Prince Makodza (31), Godfrey Mupamhanga (27), Charles Lundu (47) and Innocent Jairos (32) were arrested in Beitbridge while plotting another robbery.

Charles Lundu and Prince Makodza had fake identification cards bearing the names Enock Rimuwa and Paddington Matira respectively and CID Homicide has engaged the Registrar-General’s Office to assist with investigations on the fake IDs.

Warrants of arrest for Taj Abdul date back to 1999, with further warrants in 2005 and 2006.

The robbers are suspected to have committed a number of robberies in Harare, including the Mashwede robbery, the Trauma Centre raid, a break-in at a house in Queensdale, raids at Tawanda Nyambirai’s TN Holdings head office, and Rodney Dangarembizi’s house in Chisipite.

Reports suggest that Taj Abdul is also wanted for questioning in Botswana and South Africa over robberies in those countries.
