Opposition MDC Alliance has reported that unidentified machete-wielding assailants on Sunday besieged the home of the party’s deputy secretary-general, Mrs Concilia Chinanzvavana before they proceeded to the home of another party official.

In Banket, the home of our MDC Alliance Deputy Secretary General Mrs Concilia Chinanzvavana has been besieged by men armed with knockberries and machetes. They are in a kombi blocking the gate singing revolutionary songs.
The same kombi then went to the home of our Mash West Womens assembly provincial deputy treasurer Mrs Kutandika in Banket The safety of both families is now NOT guaranteed as they are being stalked by armed & dangerous agents.
These reports follow a spate of abduction and torture as well as the arrest of government critics who include journalists, opposition members and human rights activists.
Although the identity of the kidnappers is not yet known, the survivors of the kidnappings allege that their abductors are state security agents.
The state, on the other hand, has dismissed reports of kidnappings saying they are stage-managed to dirt the image of the government.
Authorities, however, cannot explain how MDC Alliance trio – Joana Mamombe, Cecilia Chimbiri and Netsai Marova, for instance, escaped police custody the night they say they were abducted.
