Probe Team Deployed After Land Allocation Irregularities Reports

The Minister of Local Government, July Moyo recently appointed a six-member team mandated to investigate reports of land allocation irregularities in Mashonaland West province.

The team was directed to establish if proper procedures for the allocation of land and estate management existed in the three municipalities, Chitungwiza, Norton and Zvimba.

Among other things, the investigators were also mandated with finding out how beneficiaries of residential and commercial stands paid for the land.

The team is also expected to establish if councillors and their families did not corruptly benefit from land transaction processes.

The development comes when reports of corruption in local government authorities have been on the rise lately with more than a dozen Harare councillors having been already arrested for corrupt allocation of land.
