CSOs Urged "Not To Destroy Our Country"

Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) operating in Zimbabwe have been urged to work together in a bid to address the deepening economic and humanitarian crisis in the country.

These remarks were made by Action Aid Zimbabwe director Joy Mabenge while addressing CSOs and activists during a recent virtual meeting.

He suggested that there were divisions amongst CSOs which could hamstring efforts to address issues bedevilling the country. Mabenge said:

We should build a culture of peace and democracy and not destroy our country. These conversations must build momentum.

Mabenge added that civic organisations and other stakeholders should identify areas where the government can be held accountable and map the way forward collectively.

He speaks when president Emmerson Mnangagwa has hinted on reviewing regulations governing Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs) in the country.

The president accused some NGOs of violating the country’s humanitarian policies.
