Council Speaks On 'Shaking & Vibrating' Bridge

Harare City Council (HCC) has distanced itself from one Bernard Musarurwa, saying the engineer is not an employee of the local authority.

This comes after Musarurwa, purporting to speak on HCC’s behalf, told NewsDay that the council was not inspecting its infrastructure due to resource and skills constraints.

Musarurwa was speaking following claims on social media on Wednesday that Mupedzanhamo flyover where Simon Mazorodze Road interchanges with Rotten Row, was shaking and vibrating.

However, in a notice on its social media channels this Thursday, HCC said Musarurwa does not speak on its behalf, and the said bridge is managed by the Ministry of Transport. The notice read:

Please note that Eng Bernard Musarurwa is not employed by the City of Harare and does not speak on behalf of the city.

The said bridge is managed by the Ministry of Transport because it falls under the national roads category.

The city, however, stands ready to work with Government in the event there are confirmed structural defects on the bridge.
