Low Activity At Beitbridge Border Post As SA Opens Borders

There has been low activity at the country’s busiest land border the Beitbridge border post after South Africa opened their borders, the Chronicle reports.

Border officials said less than 100 people used the border between 6 AM and 10 AM today. This comes after South Africa opened 20 land borders after easing its lockdown restrictions that were imposed just after the festive season to curb spreading the virus during the COVID-19 second wave.

Zimbabwe will according to the home affairs minister Kazembe Kazembe open the borders after consulting the national COVID-19 taskforce:

Our decisions pertaining to opening of borders are informed by the situation obtaining in our country. The national Covid-19 taskforce monitors the situation on the ground and makes recommendations to Cabinet. The Ministry of Health and Child Care also monitors and assesses the situation and makes decisions on that basis.
