Kadewere, Darikwa Blow For Warriors

France based Warriors striker Tinotenda Kadewere (25), could become the latest high profile player to be barred by his club from returning home for Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers due to coronavirus restrictions.

Kadewere’s club, Olympic Lyon wrote to the Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) late Friday, indicating that the striker would not be available for Zimbabwe’s crucial AFCON qualifiers against Botswana on 25 March and Zambia on 29 March.

Warriors team manager, Wellington Mpandare Saturday told The Sunday Mail that Wigan Athletic has also notified ZIFA that Tendayi Darikwa will not be allowed to travel to Zimbabwe while Bournemouth are yet to confirm Jordan Zemura’s availability. Said Mpandare:

Kadewere’s club has also written to us notifying us that the player is no longer available. Darikwa’s club has also said no.

It is still unclear on Jordan Zemura, whose club AFC Bournemouth are yet to come back to us.

Aston Villa’s Marvelous Nakamba has already been ruled out of the crucial AFCON qualifiers due to the United Kingdom’s strict coronavirus restrictions.

UK rules require players to quarantine for 10 days upon return from “red list” countries, of which Zimbabwe is one such country.

It has also emerged that that clubs in France are now reluctant to release players following fresh requirements for players to go into isolation for six days.

Key Warriors central midfielder, Marshal Munetsi, also plies his trade in France with Stade Reims.
