Govt Gives Beitbridge Chirundu Highway Contractors End Of Year Target

The government has given the contractors working on the Beitbridge Chirundu Highway a target to complete 364 kilometres by year-end, The Sunday News reports.

This was said by the Transport and Infrastructural Development Minister Felix Mhona who was speaking after a tour in Bulawayo when he said:

In terms of road infrastructure, the Beitbridge-Chirundu highway resurfacing was an initiative of the new dispensation which decided that we have been looking for funds elsewhere and it has not been working so we need to resource mobilise domestically and resurface our roads from our domestic resources. So local players were then invited to tender for the Beitbridge-Chirundu Road.

As we speak, they have done 164km under phase one and two and we are expecting to do 200km this year which is something that is in the right trajectory.

The project to resurface the Beitbridge Chirundu highway was given to several contactors including Bitumen World, Exodus and Company, Fossil Contractors and Masimba Construction as the road became seriously damaged as was described by many as a death threat.
