President Emmerson Mnangagwa Thursday nodded to the resumption of live shows after they had been banned last year as a measure to curb the spread of the coronavirus pandemic.
The president said the shows can resume on the condition that the number of attendees does not exceed the stipulated 50 people and adhere to all COVID-19 protocols.
He made the remarks at the State House in Harare where he also handed over musical equipment to Andy Muridzo and Chief Hwenje of the “ED Pfee” song.
Speaking at the same event, the Deputy Minister of Youths, Sport, Arts and Recreation, Tino Machakaire welcomed the development and implored artists not to abuse the privilege.
Musicians who were present expressed their gratitude and pledged they would do justice to the donation by working hard to entertain their fans.
The musical kits were donated by Machakaire as part of a fulfilment of a pledge he had made to them.
President Mnangagwa commended Machakaire for living to his promise.
The instruments include a Public Address system, mixers, drum set and guitars.
The move comes after Selmor Mtukudzi, the daughter of the late music icon, Oliver Mtukudzi had made an appeal to the president to consider allowing artists to resume live shows.
