Warriors Not Giving Up Yet On Macauley Bonne

The Warriors technical team has named Ipswich Town striker Macauley Bonne in the squad to play against South Africa and Ethiopia this month in the final two 2022 World Cup qualifiers.

It is not yet clear if Bonne, who was close to making his competitive debut for Zimbabwe ahead of the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) finals, will travel for the two matches.

Warriors manager Wellington Mpandare told H-Metro on Wednesday that they are yet to give up on the Ipswich Town marksman. He said:

Yes, it’s true, Macauley’s case is ongoing and we’re still pursuing it. We need to be truthful, we have tried our best to pin him and he hasn’t been forthcoming of late.

We know the value he can add to the team and we will continue making efforts. We have since written to the club and his management.

We are doing all the professional avenues at our disposal to have him in the Warriors set-up.

Our efforts are documented, we helped him secure a passport. We are still expecting him to make his debut for Zimbabwe.

Bonne has played in Warriors colours in the past, albeit in a non-competitive fixture and scored when he played under Kalisto Pasuwa in 2014.

Zimbabwe has been struggling for goals of late, with Prince Dube injured most of the time while captain Knowledge Musona is now in the twilight zone of his international career.
