Mendy And Koulibaly Out Of Senegal AFCON Opener

Chelsea goalkeeper Edouard Mendy will miss Senegal’s Group B opener against Zimbabwe at the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament after testing positive for COVID-19.

The Lions of Teranga and the Warriors lock horns at the Stade De Kouekong in Bafoussam on Monday at 3 PM CAT.

Mendy becomes the latest Senegal player to test positive for coronavirus after captain Kalidou Koulibaly, midfielders Pape Matar Sarr and Nampalys Mendy and the striker Mame Thiam also tested positive for coronavirus in recent days.

The Senegal Football Federation general secretary, Victor Seh Cissé, later said that a further six staff members had also tested positive.

Ismaila Sarr and Abdoulaye Seck are also yet to join up with the squad as they’re still working to overcome injuries.

However, Sadio Mane, Cheikhou Kouyate and Balde Keita are among the remaining star fit to face the Warriors.
