The Executive Director of the National Association of Non-Governmental Organisations (NANGO), Leonard Mandishara, has died.

According to the Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights (ZLHR), Mandishara died on Wednesday 16 February 2022.

In a statement expressing their condolences, ZLHR said Mandishara steered NANGO during a challenging period for civil society in Zimbabwe.

ZLHR said Mandishara’s death leaves a void in the NANGO network in Zimbabwe. Read part of the statement:

ZLHR cherishes his diligent commitment, passion and humility in working to foster advocacy and mediation in policy development, identification of crucial development priorities, proposing practical solutions and policy opportunities and constructively critiquing impractical and problematic policies.

ZLHR also collaborated with NANGO and other like-minded non-state actors to enhance public participation in various consultative processes that were critical, incrementally contributing to democratic development and ensuring the progressive realisation and enjoyment of all the rights citizens are entitled.

… ZLHR’s Board, membership and secretariat extends its deepest condolences to Mandishara’s family, relatives, colleagues, workmates at NANGO and his acquaintances within and outside the non-profit making sector in Zimbabwe and beyond.
