ZRP Update On Chimanimani, Nyanga Fatal Road Accidents

The number of people who died when a St Charles Lwanga High School bus ferrying members of the Zion Christian Church (ZCC) to Mbungu crashed in Chimanimani on Thursday night has risen to 37.

National spokesperson for the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP), Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi said police are still conducting investigations into the fatal accident.

Asst Comm Nyathi said police the ZRP is also yet to complete investigations into another accident that occurred in Nyanga on Friday afternoon. He said:

The Police is still investigating the fatal road traffic accident which occurred at the 5km peg along Jopa-Skyline Road, Chimanimani where 37 people died and 70 others were injured.

The ZRP wants to assure the nation that the names of victims will be released once the identification process has been completed.

This also applies to the Nyanga-Rwenya Road fatal accident where a Nissan Caravan vehicle which had 18 members of an Apostolic Church went off the road and crashed at the 38km peg, resulting in the death of four people and the injury of 14 others.
