I Think I Have Retired, Says Malajila

Cuthbert Malajila says he may return to Zimbabwe to finish his career at his club, CUMA FC, which plays in Division One.

The 36-year-old former Mamelodi Sundowns striker last featured for Royal AM back in 2021 and is currently without a club.

Malajila lifted five league titles and a Telkom Knockout Cup as well as the 2016 CAF Champions League with Mamelodi Sundowns.

Speaking in an interview with KickOff, Malajila said it was highly unlikely he will play in the top flight of South African football again. He said:

I think I have retired, maybe I will come back I don’t know when but maybe back in Zimbabwe.

I have an academy called CUMA FC, which plays in the first division in Zimbabwe, so maybe I might go and join my team.

They are in the first division, it’s like the Glad Africa Championship in South Africa.

I’m the owner of the team, meaning I own a professional team which is also an academy.

It started in 2012 until we bought a status in 2019 before COVID-19 began.

Then the season resumed last year, in November, I want this team to play in the Premier League in Zimbabwe.

As for playing in South Africa, I think I need to rest as I have done so much.

Sometimes you have to leave when people still want you, imagine you are coming from Zimbabwe, and you win five league titles in South Africa, it’s amazing.

We play football for those things (silverware), you know, at first, you don’t believe it, but when you start winning, it starts to sink in.
