A senior official in the Ministry of Health and Child Care succumbed to injuries he sustained after a wheel came off a moving bus and hit him.
Kudakwashe Chigumbu, who was a provincial assistant accountant, was injured in the freak accident in Karoi’s Central Business District on Wednesday.
He died upon arrival at Chinhoyi Provincial Hospital after having been transferred from Karoi District Hospital on the same day.
Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) spokesperson in Mashonaland West Province, Assistant Inspector Ian Kohwera confirmed the incident.
Witnesses told The Herald that Chigumbu was hit on the right side by the wheel and collapsed on the ground due to the impact.
The wheel had dislodged from a Blue Circle Bus which plies the Karoi-Beitbridge route.
Chigumbu reportedly sustained multiple injuries including broken ribs and internal injuries.
He also sustained a deep cut on the back of his head which he sustained from the impact of falling to the ground.
