Veteran Actress Mai Sorobhi Laid To Rest

The late veteran actress, Mai Sorobhi, whose real name was Rhodha Mtembe, was buried at the Warren Hills Cemetery in Harare on Thursday.

Among the mourners was Paraffin Drama series scriptwriter, Agnes Gwatiringa who had nothing but praise for Mai Sorobhi. Said Gwatiringa:

Mai Sorobhi was a very good script interpreter. She paid attention to detail and she was a pleasure to work with.

She could even add amazing lines which were not part of the script, but she did it with excellence much to the delight of television viewers. I don’t think that we will ever find a replacement for Mai Sorobhi.

National Arts Council Deputy Director, Josiah Kusena expressed gratitude to the government for financial assistance towards Mai Sorobhi’s burial. He said:

Mai Sorobhi was an art legend and it is really difficult to replace her. I would like to thank the government for recognising the role played by artists in our society.

The government has given financial assistance to the family and as the arts sector, we are grateful for that.

Mai Sorobhi rose to fame in the early 1990s in the drama series Paraffin which made her a household name.

Before venturing into acting, Mai Sorobhi worked for the City of Harare as a health promoter at a clinic in Glen View.
