Zimbabwean Actress Stars In Hollywood Film As Will Smith's Wife

Another Zimbabwean actress Charmaine Bingwa has starred in a Hollywood film, Emancipation, as Dodienne the wife of American actor Will Smith.

Charmaine is based in Australia.

The movie revolves around Peter, a role played by Will Smith as an enslaved man who escapes from a labour camp.

Peter, a slave, flees a plantation in Louisiana after he was whipped within an inch of his life. He has to outwit cold-blooded hunters and the unforgiving swamps of Louisiana on a torturous journey north.

Bingwa, also famed for her role as Carmen Moyo in the US legal drama ‘The Good Fight, has starred in ‘Black Box’ as Miranda Brooks.

She won the 2018 Heath Ledger Scholarship award.

Meanwhile, Emancipation, which had its first screening in Washington DC in October, was released in select cinemas on the 2nd of this month.

The film is also expected to start streaming globally on the 9th of this month on Apple TV+.

Talking about working with Smith, Charmaine Bingwa said it was a great experience working with him. People.com cites her as saying:

He’s very generous and I like to work with actors who, when you look in their eyes, you can kind of see the world in their eyes, and he has that.

And it worked because we had a great love to portray, you know? So, I’m very glad it was that way. It would be a different movie otherwise.

But no, he’s marvellous. I think the whole world loves him.

Charmaine was born in Perth to Zimbabwean parents who migrated to Australia.
