Harare City Council 'Confident' Rufaro Stadium Will Meet March Deadline
The Harare City Council (HCC) says it is confident that Rufaro Stadium will be ready for use by mid-March, in time for the upcoming Castle Lager Premier Soccer League.
The 45 000-seater Mbare facility, nicknamed by football fans as ‘The Ceremonial Home of Football’, is now a pale shadow of its former self and was declared not fit to host international as well as PSL matches.
Harare City Council Mayor Jacob Mafume assured the nation that the stadium will be ready for use by March and the City Fathers say they will meet the target. A Facebook post by the City Council accompanied by pictures of groundsmen, reads;
All hands on deck! Various Council Departments on the ground at Rufaro Stadium as rehabilitation continues. Council is confident that it will meet the mid- March deadline for use of the ground.
