I’m From Jamaica, Not From Zimbabwe, Says Arsenal Forward Reiss Nelson

Arsenal forward Reiss Nelson has denied his alleged Zimbabwean roots, saying his mother is from Jamaica.

It has been widely reported that the 23-year-old star’s father is Zimbabwean and her mother is British.

In 2017, Warriors team manager Wellington Mpandare told KweseESPN that they were planning to approach Nelson to convince him to choose Zimbabwe ahead of England.

Nelson has featured for England youth teams but is yet to be capped by the senior team, the Three Lions.

But speaking on the Arsenal weekly show Colney Carpool on Wednesday, Nelson says contrary to popular belief,  he does not have any Zimbabwean roots. He said:

People think I’m from Zimbabwe, and I had a lot of speculation about where I’m from and stuff like that because I have never really come out and say ‘I’m from this place’ Yeah.

I’m actually from Jamaica, my mom is from Jamaica.

Several British-born footballers have played for the Warriors in the past few years, among them Tendayi Darikwa, Admiral Muskwe, and Jordan Zemura but Nelson may never wear Zimbabwe’s gold and green colours.
