Timboom Coaches Bus Accident Declared A National Disaster

The government has declared the Timboom Coaches bus accident a national disaster.

The accident occurred on Sunday morning at the 5-kilometre peg along the Chivhu-Murambinda Road.

The Harare-bound Timboom Coaches bus that had 40 passengers on board veered off the road and crashed, killing 12 people on the spot including the driver.

Another passenger died while admitted to Chivhu Hospital.

On Monday, 17 April, Transport and Infrastructure Development Minister Felix Mhona toured the accident scene.

He was accompanied by the Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution for Mashonaland East Apolonia Munzverengi, officials from his ministry, and members of the Zimbabwe Republic Police, among others.

Mhona also visited the injured who are admitted at Chivhu Hospital and also consoled the bereaved families.

On Sunday, the ZRP said they were yet to ascertain the cause of the accident but preliminary investigations indicate it was caused by speeding.

In recent years in Zimbabwe road accidents have been attributed to speeding, overtaking error, not giving way, following too close, reversing error, negligent pedestrian/ cyclists and fatigue.
