Agent Sawu is a former Zimbabwean footballer and sports personality who played for a number of local and foreign clubs including Dynamos Football Club as well as the Zimbabwe National Soccer Team.
Background
Sawu was born on October 24, 1971.[1] He did his education at Babambeni Primary School and Pumula High School. [2]
Career
Agent Sawu horned his razor sharp shooting skills at Zimbabwe SAints juniors side before being promoted into the first team in 1989. Agent Sawu was an outstanding goal scorer who also had the ability to dribble, that coupled with his physic, "Ajira" was a lethal striker.[1] Some of the most outstanding performances in Sawu's career include a winner at the National Sports Stadium against Cameroon. Ajira broke into the limelight while playing for Zimbabwe Saints Football Club before the club gained premiership status. At Saints he was so outstanding which saw him being named Soccer Star of the Year in 1993. The following he sealed a move to Switzerland where he played for SC Kriens, BSC Young Boys, FC Lucerne, FC Wil and FC Basel. However, his most polished performance was with FC Wil where he scooped the golden boot award after scoring an impressive 28 goals in 36 appearances. Even when he Ajira turned out for Dembare in the twilight stages of his career, he was still a very prolific goal scorer. He also played in the Chinese league for a season turning out for Chongqing Lifan.[3] After winding down his career in South Africa, Sawu and other Zimbabwean football legends such as Zenzo Moyo, Peter Ndlovu, Benjani Mwaruwari, Musa Mguni and Nkosana Gumbo established a soccer academy with the aim of nurturing young talent.[4]
National Team Caps
Agent Sawu was a permanent feature in the Zimbabwe national team between 1992 and 2004 under coach Reinhard Fabisch and later on Sunday Chidzambwa. He was one of the longest serving members of the Zimbabwe national team from 1992 to 2004 and he was part of the Warriors that participated in the 2004 AFCON Finals in Tunisia. He was capped 75 times and scoring 25 goals in the process.

Coaching Career and qualifications
- UEFA B certificate and a CAF C certificate.
Agent was part of the Zimbabwe Saints Football Club technical team in 2011 as an assistant coach. He later on went to join Bantu Rovers as their coach 2017.[5].
In 2012 he was the coach for a South African team OR Tambo Cosmos. In 2013 Agent Sawu had a coaching stint with Ntabazinduna Prison in the ZIFA Southern Region Division 1.[6]
In May 2023, Sawu was appointed the head coach of Kwekwe United Football Club which plays in the Ruvimbo Funeral Central Region.[7]
He was appointed by Kwekwe United alongside Chipo Tsodzo (assistant coach) and Ronald Sibanda (team manager).
Before joining Kwekwe United, Sawu was the development coach at Premiership side Bulawayo Chiefs.
Trivia
Sawu said he "never had any difficult defenders" but said before his move to Cyprus in 1991, Highlanders defender Alexander Maseko stood out.
He said Misheck Chidzambwa, Ephert Lungu, Sikhumbuzo Ndebele, Cleopas Dlodlo, Francis Shonhayi, Dumisani Mpofu, David Mkandawire and Herbert Dick were physical and aggressive and intimidated their opponents.
Sawu also mentioned the Highlanders duo of Thulani Ncube and Dazzy Kapenya as technically gifted players who had good timing and were good readers of the game.
