Membership

AIZ is a membership-based organization with a membership base of more than 10 thousand members around Zimbabwe and more than 7million members globally. AI Zimbabwe was established in 1999 focussing on Human Rights Education (HRE) and awareness-raising of civil, political, economic, social and cultural rights in Zimbabwe. Since 2006 the growth of AIZ took a different turn with both positive and negative outlook. During this period AI Zimbabwe was repositioning itself in line with the International Strategic Plan. This enabled AI Zimbabwe activists, members and supporters to undertake coordinated actions in support of AI’s vision, mission and human rights work. AI Zimbabwe has experienced a relative and incremental growth since 2006; Without a strong membership, AIZ cannot be maximally effective.

Thematic areas

Freedom Of Expression

Communicating with each other and expressing ourselves freely is central to living in an open and fair society.

Digital frontier

The digital world levels the playing field and gives many more of us access to the information we need to challenge governments and corporations

Business & Human Rights Violations

States have a responsibility to protect human rights. However, many are failing to do this, especially when it comes to company operations

Enforced Disappearances

The legal term may be clunky - “enforced disappearance” - but the human story is simple: People literally disappear, from their loved ones

Death Penalty

AIZ wantS the Death Penalty to be abolished completely throughout the world. The death penalty breaches two essential human rights:

Discrimination

Discrimination strikes at the very heart of being human. It is treating someone differently simply because of who they are or what they believe.

Programmes

Research

AIZ believes that Human rights change starts with the facts. The organization experts do accurate, cross-checked research into human rights violations by governments and others worldwide.

Advocacy and lobying

AIZ uses analysis to influence and press governments, companies, and decision-makers to do the right thing.

Campaigns and Action

Through petitions, letters and protests, campaigners worldwide press for action from the people and institutions who can make change happen.
