2011 BBA winner, Wendall Parson
Big Brother Africa (BBA) is Africa's biggest reality television show screen on Dstv. Produced by Endemol, South Africa, the reality show is open to 14 African countries including Zimbabwe, Botswana, Ethiopia, Ghana, Kenya, Malawi, Namibia, Nigeria, Sierra Leone, Rwanda, South Africa, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia. The show was launched in 2003, the show consists of housemates living in isolated houses and avoiding eviction. The winner of the show receives a large sum of money. It started off with 12 contestants from different countries. Since its inception, only one Zimbabwean, Wendall Parson had won the price money, while another, Munya Chidzonga came second in 2010. In 2014, the show started in the 7th of September.


  • Munya Chidzonga

Big Brother Africa All Stars housemate, Munyaradzi Chidzonga came second in the show's 2010 edition. Chidzonga who survived eviction 9 times, was beaten by Nigeria’s Uti who won 8 country votes against his 7 country votes. Though Munya came second he was awarded US$300, by the business community headed by Philip Chiyangwa and was presented to him by President Robert Mugabe.

  • Wendall Parson

The 2011 edition was won by a commercial pilot, Wendall Parson. He walked away with US$200,000 prize money. Parson and Nigeria's Karen Igho emerged the winners of Big Brother Amplified beating 26 other contestants from from Africa.[1] Parson was voted in four African countries - Kenya, Zambia, Namibia and Zimbabwe and had the second highest votes following Karen's eight country votes.


Some of Zimbabwe's housemates did were not able to win the prize money, but certainly had their careers bloom. One such housemate is the 2011 representative Vimbai Mutinhiri. The show made the latter realise her dream and propelled her to host shows on international television, StarGist. The exposure made her one of Africa's favourite television presenters.[2]
