Controversies

Abandoning Pregnant Girlfriend

Mpofu was accused of cheating on his wife with Patience Ndazi who was 28 weeks pregnant at the time. He was denying responsibility of the unborn child, which prompted his girlfriend to disclose the affair with some chats between the two cementing the relationship as well as photographs. Contacted for comment, Dereck denied ever dumping Patience saying they ended the relationship after several fights and threats from her. Said Mpofu:

In 2016 June, after a lengthy bad patch in my marriage, I got into a seemingly stable relationship with Patience whom I understood was a divorced mother of one. When she got pregnant, I accepted responsibility and agreed to formalise our relationship by moving in together and l was to pay lobola in March. However, this was not to be as during the course of our staying together, she exhibited a propensity for extortion, violence which turned into constant threats to smear me in the media.

Mpofu said that he would provide for Patience and the child once it was born.[4]
