News:Kombi driver jailed 6 years

<vote /> Wadzanayi Mabika the kombi driver behind the death of Girls High student, Jocelyn Gomba was yesterday sentenced six years. Mr Makomo, the Magistrate presiding over the case, sentenced Mabika to 5 years for culpable homicide and set one year aside on good behaviour.

Mabika was further sentenced to two years for reckless driving. The other four counts which include; failure to stop after an accident, failure to report an accident within 24 hours, failure to ascertain if any person is injured or killed after an accident and failure to render assistance after an accident, were treated as one for purposes of sentencing and he was jailed for eight months. Mabika's licence was cancelled and he was banned from driving public transport for life and small cars for two years.

After the sentence was delivered, Mabika's wife wept uncontrollably and fainted. The deceased's mother also collapsed on Tuesday and was rushed to hospital. Mabika pleaded for forgiveness from the bereaved family and added that he was willing to reimburse the expenses they incurred.
