<vote /> The Magistrate presiding over Zimbabwe National Liberation War Veterans Association spokesperson, Douglas Mahiya's trial deferred the bail hearing to Saturday 30 July on 9 am. The judgement was expected to be passed on Friday 29 July at 16:45 pm.

Mahiya's trial started well after noon despite being scheduled to start at 8:30am. His lawyer Harrison Nkomo, who also represented Evan Mawarire called for the immediate dismissal of the case since there was no signed certificate of prosecution.

The war veteran is being charged for allegedly undermining the authority of or insulting the President. Mahiya was arrested on Tuesday 26 July for chairing a meeting that resulted in the issuing of a communique that denounced Robert Mugabe's leadership and the withdrawal of the war veterans' support.

Another war veteran Victor Matemadanda was also allegedly arrested but his whereabouts have not yet been confirmed as his phone went ringing for sometime. Ousted Zanau-PF member and war veterans' leader Christopher Mutsvangwa condemned the arrest of war veterans and called on Mugabe to stop the persecution. (read full story here).
