News:Mighty Warriors Face Germany In Their First Match Tonight.Coach Admits Underdog Status
<vote /> The Mighty Warriors will tonight make their Olympic debut, when they face Germany in a match at the Corinthians Arena in Sao Paulo, Brazil. Kick-off is at 11pm and the match will be broadcast live on SABC and Supersport.
Germany are two-time world champions and will be appearing at this stage for the fifth time, are favourites to win the match against Shadreck Mlauzi's Mighty Warriors who are making their debut appearance at the global competition.
The Mighty Warriors are the first Zimbabwean athletes to plunge into action at the 2016 Rio Olympic Games, two days before the official opening of the event set for tomorrow. They only played one warm-up match against China at the weekend and lost 3-0. In contrast, Germany played several friendlies, including a 11-0 win over Ghana at the weekend.
Zimbabwe’s next match is against Canada on Saturday at the same venue and kick-off is 8pm, before travelling to Salvador for their last group match against Australia on Tuesday at the Fonte Nova Arena and the match will start at 9pm. The top two teams and two best third-placed teams across the three groups of four will advance to the quarter-finals.
