News:Minister says Government under pressure to ban WhatsApp

<vote /> Information Communication Technology Minister Supa Mandiwanzira has denied Government's involvement in yesterday's disruption of the WhatsApp social media platform.

Mandiwanzira went on to say

"Since December last year this ministry has been under pressure from mobile network operators in the country to ban, over the top services like WhatsApp, Skype, Viber and the like because the operators are claiming that these over the top services are eating through their revenue, and they have not spent a cent in building their networks."

Speaking on the timing of the issuing of the press statement by POTRAZ Mandiwanzira said that it was a mere coincidence that the statement had been released on the same day as the planned stay away and the WhatsApp service disruption.
