News:Mphoko chides War Vets for naming successor
<vote /> While addressing an extraordinary ZANU-PF Matebeleland North Province Coordinating Committee meeting in Lupane, acting President Phelekezela Mphoko slammed some members of the Zimbabwe National Liberation War Veterans Association (ZNLWVA) for endorsing a candidate to succeed Robert Mugabe while he is still President.
Mphoko said that such an act was treasonous and a taboo,
"These people go around talking about me, the First Lady, attacking the President indirectly. That's treason and insubordination. In actual fact building someone when the President is alive and still in office, you talk about me and say I'll take over, what does that mean in military terms, it's a coup, it's subversion, you can go to any military annals."
Mphoko singled out ZNLWVA Chairperson Christopher Mutsvangwa, his deputy Headman Moyo, Secretary General Victor Matemadanda, spokesperson Douglas Mahiya and Zenzo Ncube saying that they wanted to behave as better war veterans than others. He also highlighted that the ZNLWVA members had a document called Blue Ocean with laid out strategies on how to attack their perceived enemies.
Mphoko then went on to give his liberation war history and noted that he had rescued Mutsvangwa from imprisonment in Mozambique even though the war veterans leader now claimed not to know him.
